The Inspiration Behind Buffalo Soul

April 11, 2018

In the fall of 1978, Jim “Pops” Hodges and Marsha “Mama” Hodges opened Buffalo Sound Studios. It was the first multi-track recording studio built in Fort Worth, Texas aka “Cowtown”.  It was where Mama sang, Daddy played and I soaked every bit of it all in.

Pops studied concert piano at Julliard and then went on to get his Masters in classical piano performance at the University of North Texas where he also wrote for the One O'Clock Lab Bands.  Mama was offered a major label recording contract with MCA Records Nashville in 1982. Buffalo Sound was the heart, and the music was the Soul.

Everything I’ve experienced and achieved up to this point in my life can be traced back to these roots. The life I lived, the people I met, the music I felt and the family I have is why I am who I am today.

When I met my wife, Kasey, she was my soulmate from that day on. Kasey and I are so excited to continue the Buffalo brand with Buffalo Soul.  We are currently working on finishing two writers rooms in the basement of Buffalo Soul.  Upon request we are also providing our weekend guests with a in-home singer songwriter experience . . . we'll bring the Nashville writers round to you.  Be sure to contact us directly about these songwriter experiences.

Love, community, music and creativity are what Buffalo Soul is all about and we look forward to sharing all of these with you.
